Haben Girma is a disability rights advocate, author, public speaker, lawyer, and the first Deaf-Blind woman to graduate Harvard Law School. Advocating for equal opportunities for people with disabilities, Haben has worked with Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) in California as a staff attorney, working on behalf of disabled people. She has been honored by president Bill Clinton, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Chancellor Angela Merkel, as well as being named a “White House Champion of Change” by President Barack Obama. Her work and advocacy has been featured in the Financial Times, the Washington Post, BBC, NPR, and more Stated in her book, ‘Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law’, Haben defines disability as an opportunity for innovation. Reimagining what accessibility is, she has even developed a text-to-braille communication system that has created a new way to connect with others. As a disabled woman of color, Habens knowledge and experiences have made a big impact on the world and disabled people everywhere.
