🥊 Debunking: SKINCARE HYPE HYPE hahyp noun 💫extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion. “she relied on hype and headlines to stoke up interest in her music” verb
💫to promote or publicize (a product or idea) intensively, often exaggerating its importance or benefits. “an industry quick to hype its products" 🌟THE CLAIM: Most hyped products = most effective products. 🌟THE REALITY: Hype is function of MARKETING, NOT quality. 🐵What you see: A KardashiJenner SWEARING product is secret 🤫 to poreless perfection. (“Bible”) 🙈What you don’t: Talented Marketing and PR teams weaving narrative, telling a story, and gifting (free) product into celebrity hands and handlers (ie THE recipe for *hype*.) 👩🏻‍⚕️What a Board Certified Dermatologist knows is excellent results are function of neither price nor publicity. 💉Indeed, better off pocketing the💰for a procedure, which, as it happens, is what those same celebs are doing too. (Sorry, not the olive oil. 😉🤫) ⏰ Advice I often give those looking to spend wisely —> choose ingredients that have STOOD TEST OF TIME. In a hotly competitive space like beauty, that means something. !!️All this to say, don’t mistake hype for high-quality, save your money (you ain’t getting it free,) and spend what you can comfortably afford. If you have disposable income and desire to buy something trendy, have at it, but realize it’s a nice, not a necessary. 🕯 Don’t rely on Gwyn and the Gang ‘o Goop for the *next big thing* or, put another way: ”Don’t believe the hype.” 🙋🏻‍♀️Let’s use the comments to learn from each other. Has there been a super hyped product you loved and would buy again? One you wish you could forget?
