It’s been over a week and I still don’t know what to say, other than I’m heartbroken. Rio Allred was just 12 when she took her life. She had alopecia and was bullied incessantly because of it. The school did nothing when they were notified. I never met her, but you can tell Rio was such a bright light and she deserved nothing but love and acceptance. If you see bullying stand up to it. If you see someone suffering, reach out. Practice kindness and inclusivity. And if any of you are struggling, please know that you are loved and that there are resources to help. @childrensalopeciaproject is a great place for alopecians to feel safe to be who they are.
