The Black Women’s Film Conference is a rare space, divorced from market-driven forces, where the films of Black women and non-binary filmmakers can exist in conversation with each other, for each other. Join us at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and St. Nicholas Park on Saturday, October 1st. This free, public, in-person event will include film screenings, a panel discussion with Black women film writers, and a cocktail reception for guest filmmakers and attendees.
Vashni Korin is a Caribbean-American filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Born in New York, her cultural background has influenced much of her research as she connects the larger African diaspora through folklore, history and identity. Her first documentary short, NY-Times Op Doc “You Can’t Stop Spirit” explores the freedom that carnival lends in New Orleans amongst Black women. She's worked alongside Lizzo as a cinematographer for her upcoming documentary and has directed commercials and music videos with a variety of artists. She is an awarded 2022 Tribeca Queen Collective Director with P&G, and a New Orleans Film Society Emerging Voices Alumni.
