Scoped with our FIRST female interventional endoscopy fellow @bshinn127 at Jefferson (about time!) Sadly, 31.6% of fellowship programs have NEVER had a female fellow (n = 38 respondents) and in 2020, only 19% of 63 matched advanced endoscopy fellows were women. (Yu, et al, Endoscopy 2021) Part of the reason that has been cited is a lack of female mentorship. (David, et al, AJG 2021) In fact, 47.4% surveyed programs have ZERO female advanced endoscopy faculty. Similarly, there is a paucity of women in training and division leadership. But with each passing year I see progress!
