🥊Debunking: SUNSCREEN KILLS/evidence and consensus.
👩🏻‍🏫 Like most real world disciplines, debate has rules—>most cardinal of which is need to back claim with proofs.
“He who asserts must prove. In order to establish an assertion, the team must support it with enough evidence and logic to convince an intelligent but previously uninformed person that it is more reasonable to believe the assertion than to disbelieve it. Facts must be accurate.”
📲 Somehow though, that simple construct vanishes on social media where ANYONE can be self declared expert on ANYTHING.
🦆 There are a set of repeat offenders in social media quackery, a look through my account will reveal several well entrenched on that list.
🚩They make frequent, broad reaching claims well outside of the scientific consensus and lacking a shred of evidence. In this case, the ol’ “sunscreen kills” nugget o’ nonsense.
!!️That’s the point. The goal isn’t to inform, it’s to capture your attention. To frighten. A fear all too often addressed by whatever is being hawked that day’s *link in bio.*
🧬 To be clear...science is a dynamic thing, and consensus changes as new evidence comes to light. That said, evidence is still required.
!!️And WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN!
