Major incident declared as fires destroy homes in London and Kent.⁠ ⁠ The homes on Sandy Lane, Rainham, were evacuated by firefighters as they tackled the blaze. A spokesman for Havering council, in Greater London, said it was believed that five to seven homes had been set alight.⁠ ⁠ Wildfires have broken out across the country as temperatures climbed above 40C today for the first time.
