Today we toast the great Isabel Sanford! You know her as Louise “Weezy” Jefferson on The Jeffersons, but she also had a busy career prior to being cast by Norman Lear. Her TV work (Bewitched, Mod Squad, The Carol Burnett Show), film roles (Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner), and Broadway appearances (Amen Corner) prepared her to make history. Ms.Sanford is the first—and only—Black lady to win an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy.
