I’ve spent much of the this week reflecting on my incredible experience at @fireinthemountains last weekend. Being given the opportunity to call in the sunset with our music in such a majestic landscape on Friday night felt like an invocation. What a blessing. Meeting old friends, making new ones, and having deep and heartfelt conversations with people I only just met filled my cup and re-energized me. The reverence for the land shown by everyone was inspiring. My soul was cleansed waking up to the Grand Tetons every morning. There were opportunities to engage in stimulating talks by people sharing their knowledge and wisdom. Indigenous voices were present and engaged with the festival in a meaningful way. It was an absolute honor and another blessing to be asked to participate in a talk with fellow musician / seeker Ivar Bjornson, scholars, @mathiasnordvig , Ross Hagen, Padraic Fitzgerald, Lakota elder, Christinia Ela, and Peruvian / Incan shaman, Elana Radford about the connections between music, spirituality, and landscape. This was true DIY, there was no corporate sponsorship to be seen. The festival organizers involved local businesses and people wherever possible. The fact that all of this originates from a mutual love of extreme forms of music makes it all the more unique, especially in this country. This festival not only brought joy and music to thousands of people, but felt like it was creating culture and bringing people together in a time of culture war and division. Much love, gratitude, and a million thanks to all involved. Thank you to Ivar for inviting me to participate, thank you to Shane, Jeremy, Steven, Emily, Alex, and the countless others of Fire in the Mountains who gave your blood, sweat, and tears to make this happen. It is not lost on any of us how hard it is to organize such an epic undertaking and how much energy it takes to roll with the endless tasks, challenges, changes, etc. You did it! And it was epic! If we are remembered by our deeds, you all have an impressive notch in your belts for this one. Thank you!
