when I was 12 i was told i wasn’t good enough at dance I wasn’t symmetrical enough ballet . when I was 13 i was told i wasn’t wealthy enough like my friends i wasn’t girly enough By the time I was 14 I was throwing my lunch away as I felt unworthy to eat it. when I was 17 i was told I had nothing to be low or sad about because on paper and surface I had it all When I was 18 I was told I wasn’t invited, included, or wanted by my “friends” because I chose to study. By the time I was 19 I exercising 2 hours a day to numb myself. when I was 20 i was told i wasn’t pretty enough or outgoing enough to climb the career ladder. when I was 21 I was told I had to be more flirtatious and use my body to succeed at my job. By the time I was 22 I was exercising now for 3.5 hours a day trying to numb my body instead, and to try and find that enough-ness I’ve never been but always told to be. . by the time I reached 24 i had organ failure, I was malnourished, I was mentally unstable, I was the weight of a 9 year old and was told I had 2 weeks to live. . I didn’t find yoga properly until 5 years later, I started at home on a second hand mat I bought from a charity shop. Yoga has never rejected me or told me I’m not enough. . Yoga has helped me heal the wounds of my past that 12 years of psychotherapy couldn’t. It’s been able to replace pain with peace, hate with love and self contempt with self compassion. . Through the postures of asana I have learnt to accept, honour, embrace my body and my worth as I am. . Yoga has been apart of my daily life for 6 years now, whether it’s through movement, meditation or mindset. . Yoga has helped me rewrite my story and find my path. . Yoga is more than a practice to me, it’s my lifestyle. .
