You haven't experienced golden hour until you've experienced it in the prairie. Golden hour is the hour after sunrise or before sunset, is the prime time for photography in the park.
The lower angle of the sun creates softer lighting and casts warm glow across the landscape. In the Badlands, subtle shades of red, yellow, and buff in the pinnacles and buttes become deeper and richer at these times of day. Look for the colors to become extra saturated after a rainstorm.
The long rays of light in the magic hour cast dramatic shadows, adding a three-dimensional quality to photographs. As an added bonus, many of the parks wildlife species become more active in these cooler hours of the day. What are your favorite tips and tricks to get the perfect photograph?
