My incredible grandmother Nellie Vertenstein passed away this morning at the age of 93. She was a Holocaust survivor, but never let that trauma define her. Instead, she dedicated her life to teaching children music, and taught piano from when she was 14 until the morning she went to the hospital. For her, nothing was more important than opening young eyes to the wonder of art. She was the best, strongest, most generous person I know. She was my hero, and I will miss her more than I can say.
