💔We are heavily grieving our friend, but she left us with hearts full of inspiration and motivation to make a positive impact in this world, just as she did. Mary Urashima was so special. She was accomplished and respected by so many for a multitude of reasons. She was dedicated to her community through preservation and celebration of underrepresented histories here in Orange County and beyond. She was an integral part of many preservation efforts, but her greatest passion was for sharing the story of the people and history at the site of Historic Wintersburg in Huntington Beach, CA. Her efforts to acknowledge the significance of Japanese American heritage in Orange County through her published works and activism brought a lot of needed awareness and education to the public. She was unable to see this project through, but her leadership over the last decade has brought together a dedicated group of partnered community leaders to carry on her work to be sure we are able to save the sacred property. She lovingly shared her knowledge, care, and insight with the world and we intend to continue her work for her and for our community.
