Artwork by Lars Bergquist @no_touching_ground, inspired by photos from @amivitale, Prasenjeet Yadav @prasen.yadav and @ronan_donovan Lars Bergquist is a Los Angeles–based visual artist who creates hand-painted, photo-based images that have appeared on the sides of buildings and on street corners from Athens to Buenos Aires, Lisbon to Seattle. His art in unsanctioned spaces often deals directly with political and social issues at home and abroad, including those spotlighted by the global climate movement, Occupy Wall Street, and Black Lives Matter. His work explores the relationship between animals and humans and the effects climate change has on both. For this project, Bergquist created interpretations of endangered species based on photographs from three National Geographic photographers; his images can be activated with augmented reality filters in Instagram to play video footage and sounds from each species in their native habitat. The artwork drives awareness for the Campaign for Nature’s ambitious science-driven goal to protect at least 30 percent of the planet by 2030.
This project by Aaron Huey @argonautphoto was made possible with a grant from @insidenatgeo and created in collaboration with @amplifierart for @wyss_campaign. The Instagram AR filters to view this artwork, and free downloads of all the art in the series that can be activated with your phone, are available at @amplifierart.
