Gong Xi Fa Cai! Coming from Jamaica, a nation of many cultures, our national motto—“Out of Many, One People”—rings true in my own family. My maternal grandparents were both of Chinese descent: my grandmother was Chinese and English, while my grandfather was Chinese and Indian. In honor of my mother’s heritage—and with her encouragement—I’ve created a collection inspired by the Chinese Zodiac. My mom has always been my biggest supporter and is even the one who named BYCHARI. Some of my fondest memories are watching my grandpa play Mahjong and celebrating Chinese New Year. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to cherish these traditions even more, recognizing them as some of the most meaningful parts of my upbringing and heritage.
