Every year I waited for the Met Gala, a night that always confirmed to me what I knew to be true: fashion has the power to change the way we look at the world, ourselves, our identities and the power art has in society to make us dream and have hope. This one night filled with photos of models and stars pushing the limits of what one can wear changed my life as a young queer person. It showed me there was a world out there where I could be exactly who I wanted to fucking be! It’s amazing to be different, weird and not look like everyone else. It’s taken a long time for society to realize this and although the fight is never over, the Met Gala has always served as the industry’s biggest reminder: be. who. you. are. Push boundaries. Don’t be afraid to step outside of the box that we’re all trained to never leave. I give you my biggest dream come true to date. It is my greatest honour and privilege to attend the Met Gala with a woman I have idolised my entire life, a woman who has broken down every barrier out there, a woman who is truly fashion and music royalty, the one and only Iman! Iman wears a completely handmade crinoline and gold leaf gown, jacquard bustier and flares with the true ray of light to top it off: a hat in collaboration with the incredible London based Vivienne Lake. I have to say my deepest thank you to Anna Wintour for allowing me to express my highest vision in a way I would have never been able to do without the support of @dolcegabbana, who have allowed this vision to become a reality! To be able to create this moment I have dreamed of since as far back as I could remember doesn’t feel real!!! Thank you to my Vogue family and to my real family, my mom, dad, and sister who had to listen and watch me year after year running around, wearing curtains and table cloths, pretending I too was at the Met Gala, walking up those steps, living my queer fluid fantasy. I sign this off with tears everywhere, gratitude radiating and complete disbelief of this moment.
