Season 1 Episode 11 Drafted December 24, 1951 Ethel brings up Lucy’s mail and Lucy is reading a postcard, but can’t quite make it out. Ethel then starts reciting it to her - since she’s read it already. While lecturing Ethel about how reading other peoples mail is a just awful, she notices a letter for Ricky from the war department. Lucy reads the letter and sees that Ricky is ordered to report to Fort Dix, NJ from a reporting officer. She comes to the immediate conclusion that Ricky’s been drafted. But he’s really just going down to do a show to entertain the boys in the Army. Fred plans to join him, and when Ethel finds out both her and Lucy begin preparing for their men to leave. Their sewing and emotional state bring the boys to the conclusion that the girls are both expecting a baby. With each couple jumping to the wrong conclusion, they all plan a surprise party for each other.
