A sneak peak still from our latest shoot with a new skin care line for men @theamericanboxer (Swipe for the before shot) The shoot location was a bit of a surprise and this put my colour skills to the test.
I had my 28mm FD 2.8 and some gross overhead yellows. I shot at 800 iso with a conversion lut so I knew my base, and handled the rest very lightly in post. The fight footage we’re matching has lots of blue tones in to keep to company branding so I knew it would be a bit of a challenge. We also only had 1hr so I had to pre rig the camera at home and decided we wouldn’t have time to light anything.
The finished product is a bump up to 1600 ISO and we’ve got our original layers from fight footage overtop once corrected. I went in and removed the yellows on the walls and the slight grain matched very nicely with our overall look as we’ve got a subtle vintage film grain layer on (opacity at about half) and the FD helped as well.
I’m not an expert but I’ve really learned that this thing is a beast in low light if you’ve got the glass and the subtle grading to go along with it. Be gentle with the footage and take it step by step.
Always learning and having fun!
