SKINCARE TOPIC: This/That Part III_Hyperpigmentation Edition
✨Please note that I am NOT saying this is a condition you need to treat - these are v common conditions and benign in majority of cases (sometimes associated w other medical conditions). Having said that, this topic is probs one of the most FAQ so let's get to it.
I split the recs up based on where they are on the body because the certain areas are more sensitive/delicate than others...
👙 V-Zone/Bikini Line: Ingrown hairs are a leading cause of inflammation and thus hyperpigmentation in the area, but putting on tight fitting clothes and undies immediately after shaving is something to avoid as well. I personally use @pfbvanishusa, its roll-on formulation is easy to use right after shaving or if suffering from in-grown hair. Other options: @herocosmetics lightening wand contains tranexamic acid and brightening acetyl glucosamine; @topicals High Roller Ingrown Hair Tonic, also a roller, contains AHA/BHA + Zinc PCA.
💪🏽Armpits: Believe it or not, the underarm area is extremely sensitive...its easy to irritate which causes inflammation and MORE Hyperpigmentation. The anatomy of the armpit is such that the skin folds onto itself...so the absorption is even higher. Please be careful with chemical exfoliants - some may experience worsening pigmentation. If you want to use exfoliants, try AHA cleansers or rinse-off masks first. My favorite ingredient for this area is niacinamide including products like @itcosmetics bye bye dark spots, @naturiumskin niacinamide serum, paulaschoice Niacinamide body serum, or @goodmolecules discoloration correcting body tx
👖 Thighs: The most common cause is due to friction leading to irritation such as chafing and wearing tight clothing especially rough fabrics such as jeans. Keep the area moisturized w barrier cream and protect the area from the sun. Avoid crossing your legs. Wear loose, breathable clothing. If you have excessive sweating, try using your antiperspirant deodorant on your thighs. Tx: AHA body lotion for exfoliation and retinoid at night-time. Link in bio.
