CAL FIRE continues to increase opportunities for forest restoration, critical research, and public recreation, and build upon the valuable role of California’s demonstration state forest system to help answer critical questions about the important role that forest management serves in the era of climate change. Recently, more than 1,200 acres were added to the demonstration state forest system, including the newest and southernmost forest in San Bernardino County known as Sawmill Demonstration State Forest, and a property in Placer County that is the second of a three-phase project with multiple partners to create a permanently protected 2,618-acre Demonstration State Forest spanning the Upper American and Bear River watersheds in Placer and Nevada counties.
