As my first article in reporting for the News department, I found myself a bit nervous in the different style of coverage. On reporting the protest movements against Florida Senator Ron Desantis campaign in signing legislation regarding higher education reform, critical race theory, DEI funding, and more, it was important that I captured the passion of those protesting. In collaboration with then Assistant News Director, we both faced the exhausting summer heat of Miami along with the suffocating exhausts from vehicles as we followed the rally along the perimeter of the MMC campus. The biggest takeaway from this piece was that due to it being an entire day’s activity, if I wanted to get the best possible coverage I could get, I’d have to really dedicate myself and weather out the challenges brought on.
