The story of Newtok is an urgent story of a community facing the harsh, swift realities of what decades of colonization and climate inaction bare. As some of America’s first climate refugees, the Newtok community confronts the obstacles of needing to move their homes, while facing a government that created their current living conditions that is now unwilling to recognize their role in their plight, nor support them. Telling the story of Newtok and showing how community-led just transition work can happen through film is important in raising the type of awareness and emotional connection to really drive people to action. @andrew__burton + @mikirbysmith are the brilliant filmmakers behind this film.
