Yesterday Marathon Nationals was a bit of a blur. In the morning I was tired but in the zone. I knew that I was at a disadvantage after racing the day before, but I came all this way to put in a good fight. Everything was going great during the first half of the race. @ehuck and I were able to put a gap on the rest of the field. My legs couldn’t quite keep up on the climbs but I was able to make up enough time on the flats and descents to get back on her wheel. With about a half lap to go, hunger hit. I felt light headed and dizzy. I think if I had brought some solid food with me that could’ve saved my race! After bonking badly, the last 10 miles took me forever and I finished in 5th.
Regardless of my finish, I was happy to represent with the number 1 plate and be a part of the event! It was great to catch up and celebrate bikes with everyone.
Thank you to my host family @hicks.clyde and @gigi.hicks for welcoming me into your home and taking care of me and my bike! Big thanks to Tom Rinker at @thebicycleescape for building my bike so that it was ready for me when I got in! This wouldn’t have been possible with out these amazing people!
