New work at museum @mauritshuis_museum in The Hague as part of the group exhibition Flash Back to celebrate the 200 year existence of this majestic place #mauritshuis This work was inspired by the painting 'Mars and Venus surprised by Vulcan' by Dutch painter Joachim Wtewael (1566-1638) The painting depicts the adultery of Venus and Mars. Venus' husband Vulcan had caught the couple in the act and is exposing the deceit to the gods who have gathered around. The painting was perceived too obscene for a long time, only to be showed to the public since the 1980's. It's tiny; only 15.7 by 20.8 cm and painted on copper.
