I’ve spent way too much time consuming the absolute spectacle of a defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard — which seems to have somehow brought together some strange bedfellows: fans, men’s rights activists, right wing media, and regular people, some of them supporters of #metoo, who feel conflicted about the accusations. But, honestly, whatever or whomever you believe — and pleeeease just promise me you’ll read something beyond mashed up trial fragments on TikTok! — the way that Amber Heard is being dragged and harassed and picked apart, while the court has chosen to livestream the graphic testimony of her alleged abuse online like we are all watching a spectator sport, and the way in which the public is lapping it up like rabid animals, is almost pornographic, and resembles Monica Lewinsky, Lorena Bobbitt, and so many before her. 🎨 by @jayam66
