Another year, another cultural milestone for the city of @stpetefl. The Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement is a monument to pre-industrial American artisanship. It contains a large and diverse collection of craft including furniture, pottery, architectural pieces and fine art from some of America’s most celebrated artisans. Guests can explore everything from original Frank Lloyd Wright window displays to George Nakashima furniture and plenty more in between. The building is another great achievement by @alfonsoarchitects. It’s design is as sculptural, evocative and diverse as the artwork it contains. Each exterior elevation presents its own storyline — offering a variety of textures, patterns and visual pathways to the guest experience within. Indoors, an open atrium is connected by a grand spiral staircase that descends throughout the collection. Some of the museum’s most important pieces are displayed by modern craftsmanship in its own right. My friends at @modulodesignstudio crafted display pieces that feel like artisanal descendants of the works they now hold. They’re functional yet refined, beautifully crafted yet stoic by design. The guest experience at the @museumaacm1 is punctuated by a popular cafe and a retail space designed by @bergmeyer_design. Guests can indulge in a meal along the glass curtain walled cafe or shop for craft-related gifts in the retail shop. The MAACM is yet another great cultural institution in St Petersburg, Florida. It joins the James Museum and the Dali Museum as a trio of architecturally-significant spaces that should be in World-Class consideration. I’m grateful to the teams at @alfonsoarchitects , @modulodesignstudio and @bergmeyer_design for their design accomplishments — and giving me the opportunity to collaborate with my camera.
