A piece of history & documenting history as it’s made @latimes has been reporting on local and global events since 1882.
So much happens in LA in a Day. It’s the encyclopedia of our times. The archives of our existing.
I remember when I was a kid, my dad loved the newspaper. He’d open it up, take out the sections of interest and read them individually all over the house.
I was always fascinated with how quickly a new story would be written, printed and at our doorstep just as soon as the neighbors' chickens would crow just after sunrise.
The paper was more than just the news in my household.
It was the fly swatter, it was used to keep the dinner table clean from arts and crafts and it was used to spread out under the Ford Explorer to catch the oil leak.
Over time our smartphones have phased out the need for a physical paper.
A lot has happened in my years alive and so much has changed but one thing is the same, my dad still loves his news and so do i.
This year has been one of the wildest of my life and sometimes I haven't known up from down. But something I've always believed in has become more important to me than ever: staying informed.
When @latimes asked me to talk to you all about the importance of supporting local media, I never realized how easy it was to take journalists and our local news outlets for granted. They're always there when we need them--we turn to them when we're confused, when we don't know what's going on, or when we just need a good laugh or a recommendation on the best food. What I learned from this campaign is that they need us as much as we need them and the easiest way is to subscribe and pay for the news so they can keep doing what they're doing.
