Proud to announce a brand new release, Mists of Time :: Brown bears are one of the most photographed mammals. For good reason, they are beautiful, gentle giants with so much charisma. The vast majority of the time, photos of predators revel in the fear factor - tight shots that emphasise size and power. It’s a formula that works for sure, but I headed to Katmai wanting to capture something a little different. :: As soon as we arrived in Hallo bay, after a rough crossing that had made the second hand crawl around the clock face, it was immediately clear landscape had to be a factor in an image here. Rarely have I seen such incredible 360 degree views. The bears were only half the story of this stunning place. :: One morning we found thick pockets of fog being whipped around the coastline, changing by the second. Bears were here too, with three adolescents sleeping on the shoreline. With the tide coming in, we rolled the dice and set up, hoping the rising water would displace them. The perfect symmetry of the mountain to my right had immediately caught my eye but the fog ebbed and flowed. The elements were there, but there was no way of knowing whether the light, subject and background would coalesce at the same time. :: All at once the three bears were up. To my surprise they split the group, with one in particular moving in close to my left, away from my selected scene.
