Strolling across Lucerne’s iconic Chapel Bridge feels like stepping into a Fairytale.
Lucerne’s landmark is considered to be Europe’s oldest covered bridge. Built in 1333, this iconic structure links the north and south banks of the Reuss River and remains one of the oldest wooden bridges of its kind in the world. Although much of the original bridge was destroyed in a 1993 fire, the restoration carefully honors its historic character.
What makes the “Kapellbrücke” so special? Its covered roof — inside you’ll find 17th-century paintings by local artist Hans Heinrich Wägmann, beautifully depicting Lucerne’s history.
We only visited Lucerne for a day but wish we had stayed longer. Have you visited Lucerne?
