Our co-founders Rupert Whitaker and Martyn Butler win at the @attitudemag Pride Awards!🏆
The ceremony saw 10 awards presented to individuals or groups who've changed the world for LGBTQ people.
Winners also included Heartstopper actress Yasmin Finney — who was honoured with an Attitude Pride Icon Award and RuPaul's Drag Race UK's Tia Kofi.
For 40 years, we have been at the frontline of Britain’s battle against HIV — none of it would’ve been possible without Rupert and Martyn.
Our charity was set up in 1982 by Terry’s partner Rupert and their close friend Martyn to provide advice and information at the very start of the epidemic when hysteria was rife.
They even got chucked out of bars and clubs for giving out leaflets.
As for receiving an Attitude Pride Award, both men are humbled.
Rupert says, “It’s really difficult to imagine that the effort we have made would be recognised in so many ways today. It’s wonderful to be able to say thank you and to say that we still need to keep fighting and pushing to make sure that all the progress we have made we keep. And personally, I feel really chuffed.”
