As photographers, we often chase the light—something I’ve been doing during my winter work space residency @wavehill . Through a process of accumulating both images, hand built ceramic objects and other organic material I have been mapping and taking notes of light. In making permeable object/figures/shapes that are reminiscent of the different neighborhoods I have lived in; I allow myself to touch and materialized these spaces.
A continuous process of mapping both spaces and my body have allowed me to create non-linear worlds ultimately building new ways of relating and orientating myself to the world. Heavily influenced by light and its ability to permeate and be reflected I have been studying its complex nature spiritually, metaphysically and metaphorically. Its ability to be felt, touched and be seen both beyond the eye and within is what has driven these gestures of making that note and draw out permeable objects. In such way I ask what way am I orientation in? How do we face the light? and how are we letting the light hit us? Also when does the light reveal itself to us, maybe in the shadows...
