I woke up and remembered that I had this video of the moments after I got the email that I booked the job to direct my first feature film. A freaking Disney movie. Four (or maybe five) rounds of pitching to various producers and execs. It was about a 2 month process. Then I got an email literally minutes after my final pitch to the big boss at Disney letting me know i got the job. I thought it would take a day or two at least to hear back. I was ready to push it out of my head for a while so i wouldn’t be agonizing wondering how it went and whether they liked my take. So I was in pretty heavy shock when the email came in. And as you see here, the reality hit me like a ton of bricks once I saw my mama’s face. Cuz she’s the one that taught me how to dream big. She’s the one that bought me my first cameras and told me I can do anything I set my mind to. She’s the one that would always buy me whatever book I wanted from Barnes & Noble even when she was struggling to pay bills because she could tell those stories were special to me. So I share this moment with y’all to let y’all in to how special this is for me and my family. None of this is taken for granted. I get to stand on the shoulders of ancestors who paved the way and taught us how to be relentless in this pursuit.
