These crocs are definitely in sports mode.
American crocodiles are a federally threatened species that live in an area of south Florida where the average elevation is just three feet above sea level. Protections offered by the Endangered Species Act have helped increase American crocodile numbers -- there are more crocodiles in Florida today than at any time in the last 50 years. Yet, the Atlantic Ocean off Florida has risen almost a foot over the last century, and that's having a major impact on crocodile habitat.
Learn more about the American crocodile, the threats they face from climate change, and why these reptiles are a “refuge rock star” in today's story.
