Wow if someone told 19 year old me, that I could fill an entire climbing gym with people of colour, and take control of the music, food, and vibes, I would’ve laughed in your face! I wouldn’t have believed it was possible. Firstly the first time I climbed I was terrified of heights and never thought I’d do it again ha! And then when I started falling in love with climbing and going more often I was usually the only black person at the wall or max one of two, the other being my climbing partner @mamzelle_kay . I often felt out of place and without community within climbing, and before meeting @grifff0 and starting our climbing group I didn’t see that changing. But last Thursday we did it! @wanderersofcolour and @asianclimbingcrew came together and created a climb night that centred Black and People of Colour and celebrated us within the climbing space! And I’m so happy with what we achieved. @wanderer_mui and @vitamin__k (ACC) you’re incredible!
