Bernadette Mayer (1945-2022)
The US poet, known for her landmark diaristic work 'Memory' (1971), passed away yesterday evening at the age of 77.
In 2020, she wrote an essay for frieze on the poetics of synesthesia and the ever-changing colours of the alphabet:
'My synaesthesia’s like a child’s picture book: the sun is yellow because S is, A is red, B is pink, but then E is green like free money, I say to anyone who will listen. Sex is as yellow as the sun with the copper of the X and that green between.' — Bernadette Mayer
