Almost 1 year recovery mark! Left photos were in April of 2022, Right side 2023. For those that are new, I took a long break from socials to focus on my mental health after my laser burn, and after my relationship ended. And though it was extremely tough, I’m glad I did it and made it through.
It takes time, to heal the body and the heart ❤️😢 I’m thankful that I had the resources and the friends to fall back on to support me when I couldn’t support myself.
I want to put a disclaimer that none of these afters are a sign of worthiness at all, and to love yourself at every stage is crucial but I know can be difficult. I’m not perfect and it’s an ongoing practice I have to show up to everyday.
I guess this is why I’m so passionate about beauty, skin, because I firsthand know how it affects your self esteem, how you present to the world, and how it perceives you. Taking care of yourself is an important ritual, it’s a tangible way of giving yourself love, and to meet yourself everyday.
To fade my hyperpigmentation, it was really a practice of diligence and patience. Here’s what worked the best for me.
-barrier repair creams, lots of panthenol
-vitamin c + e in the daytime
-lots and lots of sunscreen and avoiding sun exposure
-prescription retinoids + hydroquinone (3 mo intervals)
-kojic acid, alpha arbutin serums
For my workouts, I just didn’t want to feel that way about my body anymore, so I showed up 5-6 times a week to the gym, for myself.
-compound exercise like squats, deadlifts, hang cleans
-dance workouts, barre, pilates at home
-opting for highly dense nutrition foods
-practicing imperfect workouts, even if it was 15 mins, it was better than not showing up.
As for heartbreak… unfortunately there are no prescriptions for matters of the heart. Journaling, laughing, crying, grieving, and letting yourself feel. Letting myself lean on community. The only way out is through.
And lastly… lots of nature walks alone. Everyday. 🫶🏻❤️
I hope if you’re going through something similar, you’re kind to yourself. You’re worth it, really.
I’m sending love. Feel free to share this with someone, or ask any questions! I’d be glad to answer.
