I have my office hours in the same building (the East Asian library) where I met one of my dearest friends during graduate school. I took many classes outside my department, and randomly went up to a girl (who did not look particularly approachable) on our first day of class in the basement of the library and asked if she wanted to get lunch. Ten years later she is a correspondent who returned from the Ukraine border this week for her wedding in which my daughters are to be flower girls in hanbok.
