#caseyzablocki THE PROCESS: The unique textures and patinas seen throughout Casey Zablocki’s works are the result of extreme heat reactivity, proximity, exposure, and duration within the large anagama kilns in which the works are fired. There are no glazes used—super heated wood ash generated from the kiln fires creates a distinctive finish on the surface of the works. These kilns must be stoked around the clock to maintain their heat. Firings are often done for up to twelve days at a time. Requiring a large team of people, the process is labor-intensive and a testament to the quality of ancient craft the artist keeps alive.
