I have always been so fascinated with learning more about grief for children of immigrants— the longing and disenfranchisement we often feel straddling two or more cultures. Personally, I did not grow up in a multigenerational household like some other children of immigrants, nor have I been able to spend a lot of time with my extended family, and grandparents before they passed, due to physical distance, so I grieve a loss of attachments and oral stories.
In graduate school, I focused a lot of my research and study in classes on the second-generation immigrant experience. For my grief counseling class, specifically, I studied how children of immigrants can cope with cultural bereavement and grief.
So when @optionb reached out to highlight a fresh perspective on grief, I was honored to be able to share a bit of my story and what I have learned about cultural bereavement from a cultural bonds theoretical perspective.
Do you relate to this?✨
