Zoro’s guardian, Diamanie, has been working with our Community Support team for months. She first reached out after Zoro was injured, and we’ve supported them with fundraising guidance and enrichment items during his crate rest. But we do our best to see things through, trying to make sure owners are set up for long-term success, and that dogs don’t end up back in need or in a shelter down the line. Because of his injury, Zoro missed out on pivotal socialization opportunities. and if you know, you know: socialization is CRUCIAL, especially for young dogs. Many of the behavioral challenges we see stem from missed socialization early on. Zoro completed his first session with @force_free_dc on 12/17, where it became clear he has developmentally appropriate needs related to arousal and regulation. At this time, Zoro and his family are doing their best to continue working through these challenges together. Zoro has been exposed to outdated physical correction methods which is why we are prioritizing training with Force Free DC as much and soon as possible.
