What a gift! Ripe persimmon from California arrived with a friend on this confusing holiday. I love gratitude, family, good meals...and I also recognize that Thanksgiving is a celebration of colonization. In response to my flailing musings today, my friend and boss @drshlim put it well: “The U.S. is so out of kilter right now that it is difficult to imagine how it gets to working towards a common good. The work you and I are doing is a necessary, but up to now fairly hidden solution. But compassion is the only solution—everything good stems from that. We will try our best to establish a tradition of being able to train one’s capacity for compassion for those who are motivated. In the meantime, it is nice having our whole family together for the first time in at least two years...” Here’s to a more compassionate culture. Celebrating connection in all its forms. Acknowledging movement across borders and hemispheres, then and now. Savoring the glorious sweetness of this ripe fruit and moment.
