There was a sad end to the night last evening for one of our farmers. The families barn burned to the ground. But There was a joyous beginning to the day this morning as we watched a barn being resurrected and built with many members of our community. By 10:30 am the walls were up. Our farmers came to aid one of our own by dropping all they had to do for themselves and coming together to help. The amish call this a “frolic.” Others call this a barn raising, and we call it community. frol·ic /ˈfrälik/ verb (of an animal or person) play and move about cheerfully, excitedly, or energetically. noun a playful action or movement. We love how the need to help those in our community encompasses all that embodies the definition of frolic. There was a smile on every face we saw today. The children picking up trash had a smile, the children pulling around wagons with fresh water for the workers had a smile, the 5 farmers pulling off the melted siding from the house all had a smile, the 20+ people in the kitchen making food had a smile, the owners of the farm had tears in their eyes but each had a smile, the folks that were rappelling down the walls of the barn had a smile, the several people that were taking care of the animals had a smile, the 15 or so farmers building the walls had a smile, and as we drove away from this community effort we had a smile too. . . . . #lffc #lancasterfarmfresh #community #organicfarmer #lancaster #lancasterpa #goodfood #nourish #ifyouknowyouknow #smile #grateful #farmworkers #toughasscrew
