Toni Morrison once said “This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear.” That said, I’m choosing to lean into my art and celebrate and empower other creatives. ❤️ We recently wrapped filming of our short film, EMERGENCY CONTACT this past weekend and I am filled gratitude and so honored to have worked with such a skilled a beautiful group of people! @sheistyler and I put our hearts into the development of this story and the everyone involved with bringing it to the screen handled it with so much care. Producing + being one of the lead’s parent has been a very singular and humbling experience. But I was in awe, undone, tickled, deeply emotional, impressed, and taken aback by my daughter Sky’s performance and her presence on set! @emergencycontact_short is a timely story about a deeply Southern experience and having childlike faith to weather the storms of life. Our crew is composed of Baton Rouge and New Orleans locals and all of our departments are women-led. Southern stories should be told by Southern filmmakers and our goal is to continue to do exactly that.
