Saturday we had a memorial celebration for @hilareenelson Thanks to everyone that helped make it a special emotional day. Hilaree was an extraordinary gift. We didn’t just like Hilaree, we loved her. She tells us: “It’s truly necessary to have a passion, as a compass in Life” Passion she had. Passion for her boys, for her community, for women’s equality, for the climate and for the Mountains. No one has — or ever will need to — guess where her compass was pointed. Hilaree was a brilliant example for women and men when it comes to pursuing dreams with passion, feeling alive. Her career was being this driven Athlete, the team captain, and a mentor to many, but her purpose in life was bigger than that. Her purpose was to help us live passionately, to seek to make a difference, and to never sit back and be a comfortable bystander to life. She was born with a gift and she never ceased to lean into it. She set the boot pack for so many to follow. Hilaree’s compass steered her as she sought to uplift humanity. Millions of us have been improved by her guiding light and this became her purpose. First descents not first female descents, she changed this paradigm. Mom in the mountains, working to change perceptions and lead the way for those who would follow in her footsteps.
