"Photography is magic, deceptively acting as a document -- but is personal and beyond reach. This work is about things not visible; generally, not even what’s seen and mostly not present in the image itself. It's about beauty and seeing -- the way I see the subjects and the way they lure me in. The things I point my camera at are the conduit to meaning. I make formal portraits, turning them into objects of monument and spectacle. Making a photographic image brings awareness to traces and unconscious “still lifes” people create merely by living their own lives.
