Have you ever seen a MEGAPOD!? Well now through early December is the best time to experience this phenomenon! Tens of thousands of Long-Beaked Common Dolphins spend the fall off of San Diego in search of delicious anchovies. As they congregate in massive pods, there’s is inevitably a ton of underwater noise created by all of that dolphin chatter! Those high-pitched whistles and clicks can carry for miles underwater, and often times it acts as an unintentional invitation to other hungry predators hoping to score an anchovy bounty. We are of course talking about Humpback Whales! This mega pod of dolphins was filmed right here in San Diego last week, and they were shadowed by two hungry Humpbacks the entire time! They stayed in our range for about a week, and as it’s just the beginning of the season we can only take that as an amazing sign of the things to come the rest of this calendar year! Filmed by Capt.
