Ms. Monstera Deliciosa Albo-Variegata to tha stage, DAHLING, cuz it be #monsteramonday 💁🏽‍♀️🪴 ⠀ The greenless portions of this cultivar’s lush variegated leaves lack chlorophyll, which makes this kween trickier to care for than her non-variegated sista. Apart from transforming sunlight into sugar, chlorophyll also protects the plant from excessive sunlight ... so this kween loves a bright filtered light sish where she is getting enough sunlight to make up for her lack in chlorophyll, but not too much that you’ll damage those delicate leaves 👀 ⠀ I’ve been a plant parent to this kween for 7 years and it has been a journey, gurl! She lost 2 of her 3 leaves within the first couple of months, and did not grow a single leaf for almost two years. About 3 summers ago, I was convinced she was not going to make it, and so in a last effort, I repotted her into well-drained soil and attached a moss-pole. Being the hemiepiphytic green gurl she is, she bounced back and began to grow new leaves for the very first time in my care, and this kween was overjoyed 🙌🏾 ⠀ THEN, just last year, some parts of her variegated leaves began to brown and she paused on that new growth realness, and became infested with thrips, so a kween went into protective plant parent mode once again to figure out what my green gurl was going through. First she had to combat the thrips infestation with regular rinsing of the leaves and a daily (every 10 days) evening wipe down of a combo concoction of neem oil and insecticidal soap ... after consistent treatment she was now thrips free 😮‍💨 then decide to start a new chapter with this kween through propagation to give her multiple chances to serve new growth realness, so I pruned and identified healthy stems + roots, and these few weeks later she’s serving multiplicity and growing in all the lush ways Moral of the story, hunny: plant parent struggles be real, so don’t give up on your struggling green gurls, just yet. Explore researching what that plant could need and experiment ... cuz when that struggle green gurl finally shows up with that new growth, it’s one of THE best feelings ❤️
