A personal story...
Any artist striving to be better understands the importance of watching great artists move. I first met @ginabrookebeauty towards the end of my time with Shu Uemura in SF. She was the Artistic Director at the time, and would also come in as the featured artist for some exclusive events.
She has created pop culture defining images with iconic people, as well as carving out a space in product development and innovation. We were all inspired by her work and achievements, but also impressed by her kindness towards everyone.
I knew at the time that I wanted to move to NY, and wanted to ask Gina for advice about making that leap, but there was never time on the floor.
I tried to go through the chain to send an email, but came to realize that idea was not supported by someone at the brand. I knew my intentions were good, so I took it upon myself to reach out through her agency, and to my surprise she remembered me, and responded.
Not only was she happy to share some advice, and recommend books, but reached out periodically with work, and to check on me personally.
This is emotional for me to write, because stepping into your calling can reveal things about the people around you. It’s not always pretty. Moving to NYC tests everything you say you believe in, and very few people in this industry are willing to show up for you with nothing to gain. She has been one of those people. If you are a serious student of makeup, beauty and innovation, she walks the walk. Thank you Gina for your heart, your courage, and your example. ✨❤️✨
