I first read Anne Frank’s diary years after leaving Iraq and, despite the differences in our stories — our countries, language, and religion — I felt an instant connection to Anne. Anne was unafraid to write about everything she saw inside of herself, even though the world seems to want so badly to dismiss young women. She was defiant about who she was. Through the pages of her diary, Anne Frank’s voice has resonated throughout the decades – a testament to the power of young girls to recognize injustice and make a lasting mark on history. She articulated what too many communities have endured since the Holocaust: how discrimination breeds violence and atrocities on a devastating scale. By contributing an introduction to the 75th anniversary edition of Anne Frank’s Diary, I hope to honor her memory and continue to bring light to realities of genocide. @annefrankhouse_official
