Mentorship ❤️ I have the great honor of mentoring @drea3vans through my participation in #startwith8 and she sent me a beautiful thank you in the mail that made my heart swell. I’m only a small part of bringing to life her short film but I’m grateful to be acknowledged. I relied so heavily on mentors and teachers as I came up in my own career starting way back when I was 18 at @atlantictheater ! I’ve found such an important part of my journey is stepping into the role of being the mentor. I am honored to have taught/ spoken/mentored through many organizations like @afidww @filmindependent @filmfatalesorg @wrapwomen @womeninfilmla @panonetwork @half.initiative @bfffestival @directorsguild @scadfilm to name just a few! I can’t stress how powerful it is to speak to someone who is a few steps behind you on the same journey. I often find when I’m spending time with the mentee that the advice I’m giving is so often advice I need to hear myself. 🙏🏻 Anyway very long post for a Saturday morning but I was so moved and touched to see this tiny beautiful acknowledgment today. Thank you @drea3vans ! I’m excited to watch you soar.
